I was the head coach of a program for 4 years. Each year I gradually made changes to make our program more competitive (ie: putting younger, more talented athletes on varsity; exposing all athletes to competition). I had a parent who would constantly threaten to go to administration or blast me on social media when the decisions I made or rules I had to follow did not align with what she wanted for her athlete. In my final year, we were state champions and made history for our school at a national competition. During the last month of the season, her child put me in a very physically inappropriate situation. She then spun the story that I had put her child in this position and had other cheer moms join her crusade. They ended up finding a local lady who is known to oppose our school board and she publicly told their story on social media. The school did an investigation and found no evidence of what they were alleging but ultimately still removed me from my coaching position.
